Sura 69: Incontestable
(Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

---

الحاقة

The incontestable (event).

---

ما الحاقة

What an incontestable (event)!

---

وما ادراك ما الحاقة

It is truly incontestable.

---

كذبت ثمود وعاد بالقارعة

Thamoud and ‘Aad disbelieved in the Shocker.

---

فاما ثمود فاهلكوا بالطاغية

As for Thamoud, they were annihilated by the devastating (quake).

---

واما عاد فاهلكوا بريح صرصر عاتية

As for ‘Aad, they were annihilated by a persistent, violent storm.

---

سخرها عليهم سبع ليال وثمانية ايام حسوما فترى القوم فيها صرعى كانهم اعجاز نخل خاوية

He unleashed it upon them for seven nights and eight days, violently. You could see the people tossed around like decayed palm trunks.

---

فهل ترى لهم من باقية

Can you find any trace of them?

---

وجاء فرعون ومن قبله والمؤتفكات بالخاطئة

Pharaoh, others before him, and the sinners (of Sodom) were wicked.

---

فعصوا رسول ربهم فاخذهم اخذة رابية

They disobeyed the messenger of their Lord. Consequently, He requited them a devastating requital.

---

انا لما طغى الماء حملناكم في الجارية

The flood was devastating, so we carried you on the floating (ark).

---

لنجعلها لكم تذكرة وتعيها اذن واعية

We rendered it a lesson for you, that any listening ear may understand.

---

فاذا نفخ في الصور نفخة واحدة

When the horn is blown once.

---

وحملت الارض والجبال فدكتا دكة واحدة

The earth and the mountains will be carried off and crushed; utterly crushed.

---

فيومئذ وقعت الواقعة

That is the day when the inevitable event will come to pass.

---

وانشقت السماء فهي يومئذ واهية

The heaven will crack, and fall apart.

---

والملك على ارجائها ويحمل عرش ربك فوقهم يومئذ ثمانية

The angels will be all around, and Your Lord’s dominion will then encompass eight (universes).*

---

يومئذ تعرضون لا تخفى منكم خافية

On that day, you will be exposed, nothing of you can be hidden.

---

The Believers

---

فاما من اوتي كتابه بيمينه فيقول هاؤم اقرءوا كتابيه

As for the one who receives his record with his right hand, he will say, “Come read my record.

---

اني ظننت اني ملاق حسابيه

“I did believe that I was going to be held accountable.”

---

فهو في عيشة راضية

He has deserved a happy life.

---

في جنة عالية

In an exalted Paradise.

---

قطوفها دانية

Its fruits are within reach.

---

كلوا واشربوا هنيئا بما اسلفتم في الايام الخالية

Eat and drink happily in return for your works in days past.

---

The Disbelievers

---

واما من اوتي كتابه بشماله فيقول يا ليتني لم اوت كتابيه

As for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, “Oh, I wish I never received my record.

---

ولم ادر ما حسابيه

“I wish I never knew my account.

---

يا ليتها كانت القاضية

“I wish my death was eternal.

---

ما اغنى عني ماليه

“My money cannot help me.

---

هلك عني سلطانيه

“All my power is gone.”

---

خذوه فغلوه

Take him and shackle him.

---

ثم الجحيم صلوه

Burn him in Hell.

---

ثم في سلسلة ذرعها سبعون ذراعا فاسلكوه

In a chain that is seventy arms long, tie him up.

---

انه كان لا يؤمن بالله العظيم

For he did not believe in GOD, Most Great.

---

ولا يحض على طعام المسكين

Nor did he advocate the feeding of the poor.

---

فليس له اليوم هاهنا حميم

Consequently, he has no friend here.

---

ولا طعام الا من غسلين

Nor any food, except the bitter variety.

---

لا ياكله الا الخاطئون

Food for the sinners.

---

فلا اقسم بما تبصرون

I swear by what you see.

---

وما لا تبصرون

And what you do not see.

---

انه لقول رسول كريم

This is the utterance of an honorable messenger.

---

وما هو بقول شاعر قليلا ما تؤمنون

Not the utterance of a poet; rarely do you believe.

---

ولا بقول كاهن قليلا ما تذكرون

Nor the utterance of a soothsayer; rarely do you take heed.

---

تنزيل من رب العالمين

A revelation from the Lord of the universe.

---

Muhammad Forbidden from<br>Issuing Any Religious Teachings

---

ولو تقول علينا بعض الاقاويل

Had he uttered any other teachings.

---

لاخذنا منه باليمين

We would have punished him.

---

ثم لقطعنا منه الوتين

We would have stopped the revelations to him.

---

فما منكم من احد عنه حاجزين

None of you could have helped him.

---

وانه لتذكرة للمتقين

This is a reminder for the righteous.

---

وانا لنعلم ان منكم مكذبين

We know; some of you are rejectors.

---

وانه لحسرة على الكافرين

It is but sorrow for the disbelievers.

---

وانه لحق اليقين

It is the absolute truth.

---

فسبح باسم ربك العظيم

Therefore, you shall glorify the name of your Lord, Most Great.
